As Senior Adviser at Rud Pedersen Public Affairs Germany, Reiner draws on his extensive experience in trade union leadership and European labour policy to advise clients on labour relations, social policy, and regulatory affairs. His recent projects include: providing strategic counsel to multinational corporations on labour market reforms, advising public sector clients on pension system adjustments, and offering insights into EU labour directives affecting member states.
Reiner began his career at the pharmaceutical company Farbwerke Hoechst. He served as Director of the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) in Brussels and as Deputy General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) from 2003 to 2009. His work focused on European economic and employment policy, structural and industrial policy, co-determination, and corporate social responsibility. From 2009 to 2014, he was Regional Director of the Mining, Chemical and Energy Industrial Union (IG BCE). He served as Chairman of the Confederation of German Trade Unions (DGB) from 2014 to 2022. In 2022, he joined Rud Pedersen as a Senior Adviser, strengthening the firm's expertise in labour and social policy. As of 2023, Reiner has served as the President of the German Council for Sustainable Development, an advisory body of the German Government.
Reiner holds a Diploma in Economics from the University of Wuppertal. He is fluent in German and English.
