Marc Thys
Senior Adviser, Brussels
Lieutenant-general (retired) Marc Thys, MSc Eng graduated as a civil engineer from the Royal Military Academy of Brussels in 1985. He is an armoured cavalry officer and, after 46 years in uniform, has acquired extensive experience in leadership, operational, and management positions within Belgian Defence. He is a former commander of the Belgian Army (Landcomponent) and ended his career in 2023 as the Vice Chief of Defence.
Lieutenant General (retired) Marc Thys is an alumnus of the Command and Staff Course at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto and the Advanced Staff Course at the Royal Higher Institute for Defence in Brussels.
In July 2014, he was appointed as Aide-de-Camp to the King.
Since his retirement in October 2023, he is a Senior Associate Fellow at the Egmont Institute and a Senior Advisor at Growth Inc, a strategic communication company. This is part of his new professional commitment to improve geopolitical literacy in Belgium.
He is a honorary Aide-de-Camp to his Majesty the King.
